Basic commands every dog should know

It is not uncommon for novice dog breeders to neglect training. They are sure that a dog doesn’t need to know the commands if it isn’t a professional or household use breed. Of course, this is not the right approach as training is the foundation for correct dog behavior in the home and outdoors, on which the comfort and safety of your dog and those around him depend. Consequently, every dog needs basic training, be it a tiny decorative pet or a large companion.

In this article, we will talk about the basic commands that every dog should know, but of course, there are many more useful commands. Don’t forget that different breeds have their own specific training needs, and many pets need training from a professional, especially if you’re planning to develop your dog’s working and performance qualities.

Stop!

This helpful command is familiar to all dog breeders, but not everyone uses it wisely. Unfortunately, in practice, a ‘Stop’ command is often inserted for almost any unwanted dog action, even if it is not appropriate. For example, if your pet is pulling a leash, it’s better to use the Heel command than the Stop command.

Dogs need to know the Stop command. The short but succinct word not only makes it easier to keep your dog, but it often saves his life by preventing him, for example, from picking up poisoned food from the ground.

Come!

Also, an incredibly helpful command, actively involved in the daily lives of the owner and the pet. This capacious word allows the owner to control the dog’s movements and to call him names if necessary.

Heel!

The “Heel” command is the key to a pleasant walk with your pet. The dog will never pull the leash, trying to run ahead if he knows this command. And if he learns the rule well, he will walk next to the owner even without a leash.

Place!

Every dog should know its place. Of course, it can rest anywhere if it’s okay with the owner, but the pet should always go to his bed on the appropriate command.

Sit down!

“Sit”, “Down” and “Stand” commands are also necessary for everyday life. For example, knowing the ” Stand” command will make it much easier for your vet to check-in, and the ” Sit” command will be handy for practicing other commands.

Don’t forget the praise and treats of training, as rewarding techniques are the best motivation for your pet. Interest is another key to success.

It should be fun and enjoyable for your dog to learn from new commands, and training should be an exciting activity rather than an arduous and monotonous job, where the owner is always dissatisfied and angry.

Be moderately persistent, but always friendly and patient in training your dog. Your support and approval are the essential helpers on your dog’s journey to achieve his goals!
